La Norma, the practical side

Introduction:

Relaxed atmosphere, leisure time, La Norma is a cosy resort that seduces all sports-lovers, where people are able to lounge, to participate in all sorts of entertainment in the street; where children run around and play to their heart's content while their parents relax and enjoy.

La Norma has a magnificent view of the Vanoise Massif and the high valley of the Arc river and breathes in the open air.

All the wooden buildings surround the fields, so there is no need to take your car.

There is a big playground, a fishing pond and a water leisure base.

The strong side of La Norma :

. Proximity:

La Norma is one of the closest ski resorts from a motorway exit = easy acces. Free covered parking lot at the entrance of the resort.

. Carcateristics:

La Norma is a small pedestrian, carless resort with wooded buildings and a central shopping area. La Norma is situated at 1350 m on a tree-covered plateau. Nearby the Vanoise National Park (at 30 mn by car)

. Water leisure base: a nice little lake with a sledge, wooden and grass area

. Children are our priority :

La Norma welcomes them from 18 months until 17 years old.

Many activities:

Summer unfolds within a friendly, warm atmosphere and offers entertainment and activities for the whole family. Certain beautiful spots within the surrounding areas deserve to be visited : conserved natural sites, local heritage, breathtaking views, the Iseran, Mont Cenis and Galibier Mountain passes, the Vanoise National Park, the Esseillon, Sapey and St Gobin fortress, the Baroque churches, the St Benoît waterfall, the Devil's Bridge situated at 112 meters above the Arc river, typical alpine villages dotted along the mountainside...

If you are a hiking fanatic or simply a leisurely walker you'll find several, marked footpaths beginning in the resort. Walks are also organised along the periphery of the Vanoise National Park. Many rides in strollers are possible in the resort and on some hiking trails (fishing pond, departure of the path "le chemin du petit bonheur"...).

To ensure that you get the most out of your stay in the mountains, we have a never ending list of activities to entertain you, such as hiking, rock climbing, via ferrata, zip-lining, canyoning, rafting, mountain biking . Sports tournaments, films and slide shows on the surrounding area and mountains, morning warm-up exercises, displays, evening around the fireplace, cinema... There's something for every one!

The Esseillon Fortress

The Esseillon barrier

The fortified buildings of Esseillon (5km from La Norma) which collectively formed a barrier for the entire valley against the invading armies take you back in time to yesteryear. They tell the story of how continued attacks pushed the Sard people of the XIX century to build these impressive forts to protect themselves. 5 forts with the royal family names(Marie-Christine, Marie Thérèse, Charles-Albert, Charles-Félix et Victor-Emmanuel) were built between 1818 and 1834. Open for visits every day except Saturday. Donations accepted.

The Victor Emmanuel Fort

The 1rst « Savoyard discovery promenade»

On the Esseillon barrier, the Victor-Emmanuel fort is the main component of this new walk, open to every one, allying the discovery of a cultural heritage and game.

The scenario of this Savoyard discovery Promenade is the following :

During the Sardinian period of the years 1841-1842, an artillery man was in post in the fort of the Daybreak (Victor-Emmanuel). To spend time that seemed too long for him, he took notes in a pad. At the end of his two years garrison at the Esseillon Fort, he had to leave for another affectation...but the day of his departure he lost his pad ! He went back looking for it in the fort, but he never came back...

The legend says that he still wanders there and that sometimes, at the bottom of a corridor, we can perceive him...

A few years ago, during the fort renovation, a linen bundle* was discovered. Inside, the famous pad lost... Unfortunately pages are missing, in the linen bundle, there is also a knotted rope, a magnifying glass, a piece of mirror and a pencil.

A game course and a free course are proposed to visitors. The access is easy for strollers, seniors, accompanied wheelchairs.

To discover absolutely in family or with friends for an unforgettable adventure !

Parking in front of the fort on the old road CD 215.

*Information at Maison de La Norma. Get your linen bundle for 5 €

The Vanoise National Park

The Vanoise National Park

The richness of the fauna and flora of the Vanoise National Park is undeniable. Large mammals to insects through birds and amphibians are hundreds of species you can observe with patience and respect towards animals. You will probably see marmots, ibex and moutain goat. Being on the territory of a national park is another reason to be a tourist environmentally conscious that he has the chance to approach. But remember: the nature deserves your respect elsewhere.

The Orgère valley

The valley of Orgère is located on the territory of Villarodin / Le Bourget, near the Vanoise National Park (VNP)

This site boasts one of the largest attendance of the Vanoise not only because of the easy access but also the exceptional environment. 30 minutes from La Norma, or 1:30 of walk from the hamlet of Amodon, the Orgère valley is closed to the north by the Aiguille Doran and Rake Aussois, near the "place where Barley grown "(hence the word "Orgère" in french orge).

Here, it is common to see mountain goats on the slopes of the Aiguille Doran, and marmots along the brook Povaret. You will walk (next season) between a huge carpet of flowers more exceptional as each other. Walks are really accessible for every one in family or with a guide. And for most sports, you will enjoy to cross various passes at your fingertips. Check with the Tourist Office of La Norma or in shelters.

Forest Orgère and discovery trail

Nor should we forget the beautiful forest of larch, spruce, pine Orgère (the only classified forest in the Maurienne valley) ... which includes trees over 700 years. This forest houses a remarkable fauna and flora that intends to enhance the trail. The Swiss stone pine, strong and has been chosen for the panels as "guide" for walkers and "storyteller" of the memory of the forest and the valley along the trail.

Requalification of the Orgère trail

In the spirit of the law of 11 February 2005 on "equal rights and opportunities of people with disabilities, access to this trail will be facilitated. In particular, tools and furniture suitable for people with hearing disabilities, visual or motor will be put in place. The aim is primarily to ensure the comfort and access for all exceptional heritage housed in the valley of Orgère.
